A Blog Can Help Build Your Avon Business Over Time
You may have already heard my story. When I originally joined Avon, back in 2001, my only intent was to sell Avon online and earn enough to pay for a square dance website I was creating.
That didn’t quite work out the way I wanted, but I adapted, learned a lot, and ended up building a huge Avon business.
One of the things that really helped me build my Avon business was that square dance website. It gave me exposure and I met people all over the country. Unfortunately Avon wasn’t quite ready at that time for me to bring in all those new online customers and recruits.
But things have changed since then. Avon is now on the cutting edge of online marketing! They provide us with our own online social media center, and they provide us lots of training on how to build using social media.
And websites have grown from static websites which rarely changed, to blogs which are constantly changing websites.
To take your business to the next level, a personal blog can really help.
It takes time to build your Avon business. You grow your customers and team members over time.
When you first get started, you reach out to your immediate circle – friends, family, and then grow out to the next circle – friends of friends, etc.
You will want to continue to do this as you grow your business.
You will also want to reach out in other ways – meeting new customers and team members through parties, networking, events, etc… any of the many ways there are to meet people.
All of these people that you add to your list become part of your network. It’s important that you stay in touch with them and continue to follow-up.
A blog helps you to stay in touch with your network.
A blog is a continuous way to be your most authentic self, and let your customers and prospects know who you are.
It’s not important that you be a great writer – in fact, it’s probably better if you are not.
You blog posts become like a conversation between you and a friend.
When you write blog posts, you want to do your best to make them sound conversational.
You can share your expertise about your products, as well as other interesting things about you.
It’s this “getting to know you” and you sharing your own experiences that make YOU the best choice for them when they are ready to purchase Avon or join your Avon team.
People buy from those they know and trust.
When you start a blog, you become known as the expert. You can give your customers and potential recruits insight about why they want to buy from YOU rather than someone else.
As they get to know you better, they’ll start to trust you. They start to feel like you’ve let them into a little part of your world, and they’ll start to feel loyalty towards you.
You are branding yourself. You and your unique viewpoint is what makes YOU the best at what you do.
How to use your blog to build your Avon business.
How is your Avon business helping you? What are you getting out of having an Avon business? These are the types of things you want to blog about.
Some possible ideas:
- How I got rid of my lifelong acne problem
- Why my skin looks 10 years younger
- Why I needed to change my skincare routine after pregnancy
- The real reason why I am selling Avon
- How I have saved time during my morning routine
Think about your blog being a window into your life, and speak from your heart to your customers and prospects. As they read your posts, they are getting to know the real you.
You can further use your blog posts to post links to your posts on social media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Linked In, etc.
So, for example… Let’s say you get your blog started and launch with a series of 5 pre-written and published posts.
You may want to introduce yourself in your first blog post and talk about your way – why you joined Avon and how it’s benefitting your life. Then maybe choose 4 posts that support this and let your customers know why you love the products that you have chosen to sell. And how it can enhance their lives and solve a problem for them too.
Story telling is the best way for people to get to know you.
People love stories.
Using your blog to tell your story, in your own voice and in a conversational way, will endear you to your customers.
Write like you speak, and your customers and prospects will be able to get to know the real you.
Using your blog to tell your stories rather than only relying on a social media platform is ultimately the best way because you will always own and have control over your own content – not the case with Facebook and other social media.
Over time you will attract new readers and customers that you never would have imagined, simply by telling stories on your blog.
It’s not going to happen overnight. In fact, you may blog for a year or more before you really start seeing growth coming from the effort.
I suggest that you blog at least once a week (or more). Once you decide when and how often your new blog posts will come out, stick to it and be consistent. Over time people will see that you are consistent and will start to follow you.
As you grow and gain new followers, you will start to get more online orders, and even prospects for new team members. As you continue to blog, your posts will continue to build the relationship with your new followers and it will continue to grow.
Your blog will connect you with people from all over the country.
In 2017, 1 in 7 households in the U.S. owns a Direct Sales business. For women who want to stay home with their children, Avon offers them an opportunity to make money, either part-time or full-time, based on flexible hours and an alternative method of earning income.
If you have been in your business for any length of time already, you will know that marketing to your friends and family will help you start your Avon business, but that’s just the beginning.
In order to really grow your Avon business, you need to get outside of your circle of influence. It’s the people you meet along the way, and people you haven’t even met yet, that will grow your business.
And what differentiates you from other Avon Representatives out there?
It’s you! Show them who you are on your own blog.
If you’re ready to start your blog, you can find all the technical details here.
Keep in mind that this is a big undertaking, and it’s not for everyone. It will take some learning and you will need to build some new skills.
You can start slow and build over time if you choose.
And if blogging is not for you, that’s okay too. There are many ways to build your Avon business – this is just one of them.
