How To Eliminate Our Fear Of Selling

How To Eliminate Our Fear Of SellingDoes selling make us feel a little weird? Do we worry that our friends might think we’re trying to make money off them?

Do we feel embarrassed when people don’t believe what we’re telling them, or they think we’re just saying that to make a sale? Do we feel like we’re imposing ourselves on people who don’t want to buy?

These are normal feelings for people who are just getting started. But if we change the way we think, we can let go of our fear of selling and all of the negative thoughts that come with that.

Selling is not a win-lose situation. We’re not trying to “get them to buy.” We’re not trying to push ourselves onto them.

Instead, let’s look at our business differently. Let’s say to ourselves:

My job is to offer one more option for people’s lives, and then they can decide what’s the best option for them.

That’s it. It’s our job just to inform them, not to try to “sell them.”

We don’t know what’s happening in someone’s life. We don’t know if today is a good day or a bad day.

But it’s not up to us. It’s up to the person we’re contacting to decide for themselves if Avon could help them now, in the future, or even never.

Isn’t that great! We don’t have to sell. We don’t have to convince. We don’t have to push ourselves onto anyone.

When we look at it from a viewpoint of just adding one more option to that person’s life, we won’t suffer rejection or bad feelings.

Take the focus off yourself, and just think about the person you’re helping. There’s no stress, and no agenda. Having an agenda is no good for anybody. It puts your potential customer on the defensive and creates a lot of pressure for yourself as well.

There are plenty of potential customers out there, and this one customer is not going to make or break us.

There’s nothing for them to reject when we’re not pushing or trying to make a decision for them. We’re just adding value to their lives by giving them one more option that they can choose now, in the future, or even never. It’s up to them!

Next time you’re talking to someone about Avon, and you feel a little resistance, say something like this: “You have a lot of choices in your life. Let me add one more option. Then you will have an additional choice when you’re ready to solve your problem.”
