Parties are an informal, fun way to get to know people and find new customers. They are a great way to build your team and increase your sales.
A party is a great way to promote special offers and show new products. It’s a chance for your customers to see the products, live in person. They can touch and smell to their hearts content – way better than just relying on the picture in the brochure.
An additional advantage is when one person gets excited about a product at a party, it becomes contagious, and before you know it you’ve just sold a lot of that product.
Invite your family, friends, work colleagues, customers and people who have not ordered yet – ask everyone to “bring a friend” – they will feel more comfortable and you may gain more customers and team members.
If you have been a Representative for awhile, you will be surprised just how many products you have around your house, and you can always add to what you have by ordering demo products.
If you are a new Representative, you got some products in your Starter Kit. You can order demo products and lots of samples to have on hand. Keep in mind your budget, and only spend what you can afford.

Where Should I hold my party?
There are so many places you can do this. The best answer is whatever works. You can hold it at your own home, or you could ask one of your customers to use their home. If you use somebody else’s home, be sure to offer them an appreciation gift or small discount for their effort.
You can also use the back room of a restaurant, or a room in your church, or wherever you can find a place.
How long should my party last?
There is no set time limit, but 1 to 2 hours should be plenty.
When is the best time to hold my party?
Again, the best time is when you can fit it into your calendar.
Take into account the people who you will be inviting. If most of them work during the day, then an evening might be better. But daytime works well too.
There’s always an option to hold a lunchtime party at someone’s office as well. You provide lunch and they get to try out the products – it’s a win/win.
When should I deliver invitations?
Deliver invitations at least one week before your party. In today’s world, everyone is very busy and overextended. Stay in touch with everyone, and be sure to remind your guests personally the night before, or even the day of your party.
What about refreshments?
Keep it simple. You want your party to be more about your Avon products than how wonderful the refreshments are.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks, or even a glass of wine, along with chips or cookies is perfect. Or if you want to create a theme for your party, gear your refreshments around that.
What else will I need?
You’ll need plenty of Avon brochures and order forms. You’ll also want Q-tips, cotton balls, disposable sample spoons, etc., for people to try your samples.
What should I wear?
Casual clothes that are neat and comfortable are perfect. Wear Avon jewelry, makeup and fragrance – be your own talking billboard for Avon.
Play soft background music to promote a relaxed atmosphere.
How can I encourage people to buy at the party?
Talk to them while they try the products. When you see that they like a particular product, suggest that they put it on their order form so they don’t forget it later. They can always scratch it off later if they decide they don’t want it. Remind them about the Avon Guarantee.
Get your party off to a fun start by trying a game. Here are some suggestions:
Celebrity Couples Game
If you’re looking for an icebreaker this game is guaranteed to get people talking! On arrival at the party, each person has a post-it note (or similar) stuck on their back without them seeing what it says. The post-it notes have been pre-written with the name of one half of a celebrity couple on each one.
The aim of the game is to find your partner without knowing who you are!
Ask other people yes or no questions about your identity, until you have guessed who you are and can find your partner.

You and your guests each write down a secret (or fact about themselves that nobody knows) on a piece of paper. You could even get them to write down a beauty/life secret to get the party off on the right foot!
Put all the pieces of paper in a bowl then begin. You pull out each piece of paper and read out the fact while your guests try to guess which secret belongs to which person. If you want to be formal, you can ask them to write all their answers down as they go. The person who gets the most correct answers wins.
This is a good “getting to know you” game.

Tips & Ideas
- Try the products yourself before the party so you can tell your guests your experiences of using them.
- Spray your Avon fragrance to welcome your guests.
- Encourage guests to try on the jewelry and wear a piece yourself, coordinate your outfit with it for maximum impact.
- Have makeup remover and cotton balls to hand out.
- Buy Avon makeup removal wipes, to highlight another great product.
- Create a relaxed fun atmosphere. Soft background music always works well.
- Have plenty of brochures and order forms available.
- Think about when your order is due when deciding what day to have your party.
Gifts & Prizes
Have some small Avon items to use as prizes for the games played throughout the evening.
It’s a nice idea to offer your guests a gift or some samples to thank them for coming; this will also encourage repeat customers.

How do I set up a display?
- Clear the display area required. A dining table would be fine.
- Using boxes or cubes, build a pyramid shape. This will be used to display your products.
- Cover the boxes with a cloth. Tuck in any rough edges.
- Always display products starting at the top of the pyramid and work downwards. Separate different categories into different areas, e.g. fragrance, skincare, makeup, men’s products.
- When displaying each group, use the tallest product first, working down in size to create a pyramid shape.
- Having positioned all of the products, add props to complete the display image, e.g. Christmas – garlands/artificial snow, Easter – daffodils; summer – sea-shells.
This display looks fabulous and allows all the products to be clearly seen.
If you’re feeling creative try something like this, you could cover any boxes you have with some material to make your products really stand out. The main thing to remember when displaying your products is that customers should be able to see them all easily and try them.
You’ll be surprised at how much fun an Avon party can be. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you decide you want to host a party regularly to help increase your sales and grow your team!
Parties and Home Parties are an excellent way to sell hundreds of dollars in a matter of hours. Once you have one party, you'll definitely want to have more!
Remember, there are no set rules. This is your business, and you get to party however you want. Customize the party for your personality and what will work best for your customers, and just focus on having a great time!
