How to Work and Convert Avon Alma LeadsOne of the benefits of being an Avon Representative is that if you are working to build an Avon team, Avon gives you the opportunity to purchase leads of people who have said they wanted more information about being an Avon Representative.

These are called Alma leads. There is no guarantee at all that these people will sign up, but at some point they “raised their hand” and said they wanted to know more.

I have had good luck with working Alma leads, so I wanted to share what I’ve learned with you to help you also achieve success.

If you are new at working Alma leads, Avon requires that you take the Alma course at Avon University on YourAvon.com. I suggest you get this done as soon as you can so you don’t have to worry about it.

While this post talks about Alma leads, the process works for any lead you have – whether you purchased them from Alma, or met them at an expo, or even if you met them as you went about your day.  You may need to adapt your first follow-up to match the situation, but rest of the follow-ups will work great.

Important Tips before you get started:

I contact my leads as soon as possible – within minutes if I can, but definitely within 12 hours. If it’s late at night, I will at least get an email out to them immediately and call them the next day.

I purchase premium leads – They are expensive at $10/each, but I’ve found that they are worth spending the money on. I’ve tried the $5 leads and have not done very well with them. Some Reps are doing well with these leads though, so I suggest you give them a try before discounting them.


I use 4 methods of communication – I call them, text them, email them, and I send a postcard series where they get 6 postcards over the next couple of months. There are many options for postcards. I use SendOutCards, but you can also purchase them from VistaPrint, Town & Country, or you can even print your own on card stock.  My SendOutCards link will let you send a free card if you want to try it out.

Keep track of your leads:

Many Avon Representatives print their leads and keep track of them that way. I use an online CRM (Contact Relationship Manager) program called Big Contacts which helps me stay on top of my follow-ups and record every conversation.  There are lots of CRMs available out there, and so if this interests you, find one that works for you.

And of course, you’ll need to use Alma so Avon can see that you’re actively working the leads. If you don’t keep Alma updated, your leads may be revoked if you don’t update them before they expire.

What I do:

When I receive a lead, the first thing I do is call them. The majority of leads will not answer the phone because they don’t know my number or who I am. That’s totally okay. I’ve also found that many leads don’t want to talk to a person. They just want to get signed up. So leave a message. My message is short and always the same on the first call. This is what I say:

Hi, this is Lynn with Avon. I’m giving you a call because you requested more information about being an Avon Representative. My number is XXX-XXX-XXXX. Please give me a call. I’m also going to text you my contact information, and send you an email with more information. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day/evening.

Then I immediately send a follow-up text. I use an amazing service called Shuffle that really helps me.

Shuffle is an app that allows you to create a virtual business card and share it with your contacts. It’s kind of like the 21st century equivalent of handing someone a physical business card – but better!

So, I add the lead to my Shuffle account, create a unique link for them and this is the message I text them:

Hi ___, This is Lynn with Avon. You requested information about an Avon business? Or want to buy products? I’m here to help you. Here is my business card with all the links you need – (their custom shuffle link)

That link also lets me know when they’ve viewed my card, which also helps with follow-up.

Then I also send an email with the subject: Name, Thanks for your interest in Avon. The email is a little long, but I’m getting very good response from it. Lisa Wilber shared this email with me, so I want to give her credit here.  Click here to download it.

Once all four of these tasks are completed, I document them in Alma and I schedule a follow-up in 3 days.

Be sure to document every contact in Alma. After I’ve gone through all my follow-ups, if I still haven’t made any contact with them, I’ll send them a postcard or email every month or so to see what happens.

Of course if they respond, or you get the opportunity to talk with them, be sure to take it. And then use your judgment as far as what to do next for follow-up. It’s always a good idea to ask them. I might say something like, “How would you like me to follow-up,” or “When should I contact you next.” They’ll tell you.

I hope you have success with this method as I am. Of course you can edit the scripts to what fits you and your personality. There is no exact perfect way to do the follow-ups.  The most important thing is to be consistent.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t appoint a lot of these leads. You won’t get them all, but with a little effort and follow-up you will get many of them. Remember, in any sales situation, 80% of all sales are made on the 5th to 12th follow-up. So be consistent, stick with it, and you will grow your business.
