Passive Prospecting – Putting Brochures Out Door To Door & Business
To be really successful in your Avon business, you need to learn to get outside of your warm market – your friends and family circle.
You’ll need to find ways to prospect for new customers and recruits.
So, let’s look at some ways to meet more people.
Growing your Avon business is pretty simple.
There are only 4 main steps:
- Prospecting for new customers & recruits.
- Getting a brochure (either paper or digital) to every customer every campaign.
- Following-up with every customer you gave a brochure to every campaign before you place your order.
- Take the order, submit it to Avon and deliver to your customer, or send them to your Avon Online Store to place their order
And then Rinse and Repeat.
It’s really that simple. You just do these 4 steps over and over again, and you will have a strong Avon business.
We have our Daily 8 System to help you work on the activities that will help you grow your business.
The Daily 8 system is a proven formula
When followed consistently, the Daily 8 Plan will help you maintain the consistency required to build a thriving team and an exponentially expanding residual income.
Instead of working 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week your goal is to capture 8 POINTS a day, 5 days a week for a total of 40 POINTS per week.
Print this sheet and use it to track your weekly points.
Follow this plan consistently for 90-days and teach your team to do the same. At the end of 90 days, REPEAT and then REPEAT again. This is your Daily Method of operation.
The real secret to your Avon Business success is that there is NO SECRET!
It simply takes a simple plan and the dedication and commitment to WORK THE PLAN consistently! That’s it!

Today we’re going to talk about other ways to use your brochure to gain new customers.
Prospecting Door to Door For New Customers And Recruits
Going Door to Door and meeting People
Regardless of how you work your Avon business, the very best thing you can do for your business is to get a name and phone number for every brochure you pass out. We use the drawing slips for this. This applies to door-to-door prospecting as well.
You’ll have the most success if you knock on the door, introduce yourself and get their name and phone number to follow up.
If you do it this way, you can give yourself a point in the Daily 8 System for getting contact information for at least 3 new potential customers.
If you also get contact information for 3 new potential recruits, you can earn the point for that as well.
And you can give yourself a point just for going out and working the door-to-door method.
If you take 100 brochures and go out and knock on each door, introduce yourself, ask if they’d like an Avon brochure, get their name and phone number, and then call them a few days before you place your order to see if there was anything they needed, you will, on average, get about 20-30 orders. Not too bad considering an average Avon Customer Order is $25.00. That means you could potentially end up with a $500 – $750 order.
Leaving brochures on doorsteps or Tossing in driveways
I also know that some people can’t knock on the doors due to schedules, fears, etc. and would rather just go around a neighborhood and leave the brochures either on the doorstep or in a What’s New bag on the door handle, or toss them in driveways.
You can grow your Avon business this way as well, as long as you understand that it’s not as effective as knocking on the doors.
Even still, you can give yourself a point in the Daily 8 System for working this way as well.
Those same 100 brochures you used above will only get an average of 2-3 orders if you do it this way.
Most people will throw the brochure away when they find it on their doorstep or driveway, unless they were specifically looking for an Avon Representative.
So… the way around this is to use consistent massive action.
You will need 200-300 brochures minimum.
Be sure each brochure is labeled with all of your contact information, as well as your Avon Online Store link.
Pass them out on the doorsteps and know that you’ll hopefully get some orders, but not many.
Those who do order are now your customers.
You will add them to your system and make sure they get a brochure and a follow-up call or text every campaign from now on.
Then you go back to the SAME houses EVERY campaign for SIX campaigns.
You will pick up a few more customers each campaign by doing this. By the time you get to the 4th, 5th & 6th campaigns, they start to feel like they know you.
You’ve been consistently on their doorstep or driveway every campaign.
Now they’ll start to look at the brochure and give you a call.
Over 6 campaigns you will most likely end up with the same 20-30 customers as if you knocked on their door and got a phone number.
Keep in mind, it will take 6 times as long and 6 times as many brochures, but as long as you are consistent it will grow your business.
After 6 campaigns, move a few blocks down to the next neighborhood and start the process all over again.
When Richard and I started our business, we were working high-pressure 60-70 hour/week jobs and I was commuting 1-1/2 hours each way to work. Most people don’t like you knocking on their doors at 10-11:00 at night 🙂 so… this is one method we used to help build a huge business.
You don’t want to limit your business to door-to-door, but it’s a great component of your strategy to increase your business.
Putting Brochures in Various Businesses
This is a passive way to build your business, but you can give yourself 1 point in the Daily 8 System for taking the time to get out there and put out brochures.
This works with current brochures, as well as any outdated brochures that you don’t want to waste.
One way to find more people who are interested in buying from you is to distribute your Avon Catalogs to businesses around town.
Be sure each brochure is labeled with all of your contact information, as well as your Avon Online Store link.
There are so many places to leave your catalogs so that people can find your business, and you can drop them off when you’re at an appointment or running errands.

You also have the ability to text or email Avon Digital Brochures.
If expense is an issue for you, the Digital Brochure is free.
In my opinion, it’s not quite as effective as a physical brochure.
The reason I believe that is that when you give your customer a brochure, it will probably sit on their counter for a couple of days. It may eventually migrate to the bedside or bathroom where eventually they will pick it up and read it. When you text a Digital Brochure to someone, they see the text, but if they don’t have time to look at it right away there is a very good chance it will be forgotten.
But, if you choose to use the digital brochure, it is still definitely an option. Here is a post about how to share your Digital Brochure on social media and other ways.
