The Power Of Free To Grow Your Avon Business
By using the Power of Free, we’re going to teach you how to give away content to create massive goodwill and grow your Avon business.
A critical technique and effective marketing tactic is required to create awareness about your new Avon business online.
How, you ask?
Well, there are many ways to create awareness about your business, but the method we are going to discuss here is the “Power of Free.” (I thought you’d like that!)
Growing your Avon business is pretty simple.
There are only 4 main steps:
- Prospecting for new customers & recruits.
- Getting a brochure (either paper or digital) to every customer every campaign.
- Following up with every customer you gave a brochure to every campaign before you place your order.
- Take the order, submit it to Avon and deliver to your customer, or send them to your Avon Online Store to place their order
And then Rinse and Repeat.
It’s really that simple. You just do these 4 steps over and over again, and you will have a strong Avon business.
We have our Daily 8 System to help you work on the activities that will help you grow your business.
The Daily 8 system is a proven formula
When followed consistently, the Daily 8 Plan will help you maintain the consistency required to build a thriving team and an exponentially expanding residual income.
Instead of working 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, your goal is to capture 8 POINTS a day, 5 days a week for a total of 40 POINTS per week.
Print this sheet and use it to track your weekly points.
Follow this plan consistently for 90-days and teach your team to do the same. At the end of 90 days, REPEAT and then REPEAT again. This is your Daily Method of operation.
The real secret to your Avon Business success is that there is NO SECRET!
It simply takes a simple plan and the dedication and commitment to WORK THE PLAN consistently! That’s it!

Today We’ll Talk About The Power of Free
The Power of Free works in two ways:
First, it works for you. The internet provides an infinite number of opportunities for you to promote your business… for free!
It is up to you to take advantage of it.
Second, the Power of Free works for your future customers.
By freely giving potential customers information, you build a relationship with them, which in turn makes them loyal customers.
Why give your customers information when you are trying to sell them your products and/or your business opportunity?
Because people go online to look for information! They don’t go online to buy your products.
By giving them information that meets a particular need (I’ll show you how to do that later) you not only have satisfied their specific desires, but you have also built a relationship with them.
They are now part of your “warm market” and will be more likely to buy from you when the opportunity arises.
What is your plan of action?
The “Power of Free” is all about taking advantage of the outlets available to you.
You must put yourself out there in order to entice others to come to you.
As an Avon Representative, you already have a product and/or opportunity to sell and hopefully, you know who your target market is.
If you need help with your target market, click here for a How to Find Your Target Market Worksheet.
The next step is to determine what makes you different from the rest of the Representatives out there selling the exact same thing.
In other words, what is your competitive advantage?
To find out, ask yourself the following questions:
- Why should customers choose me? What sets me apart from my competitors? What information do I possess that they don’t, or that they are not willing to share?
- What do I offer, or how do I offer it, that is distinctly different from other distributors selling the exact same thing?
- How can I improve my current offerings?
- What is my most wanted response? What do I desire customers to do: purchase products or join my opportunity?
Once you have identified these answers for yourself and your business, it will be much easier to convince others (especially your target market) that your business is superior.
In addition, having confidence in who and what you are will help you define exactly what your target market wants from you.
This piece of the process is critical because before you begin creating the materials you will be using to market your business; you will have to have a plan of action in place.

Why It Works
The “Power of Free” works for one very simple reason. People love free stuff! And that includes information.
In fact, information trumps products every time. The internet was built to share information.
Think about it. “Free” may not always equal valuable, but how many times have you turned down something that was free?
The “Aha!” Moment
Your advantage is the “aha!” moment your readers will have once they realize how valuable and useful your business is.
Through effectively-written blog posts, articles, videos, and other marketing tools, you will create awareness of your business and ideally, grow your list (more on lists next week).
The purpose of these tools, and of marketing your business, is to let your target market know who you are and how you can help them.
The purpose of free products
Just because you are giving away these products for “free” does not make them valueless.
They are tools. They are sales tools that will extend your awareness by allowing you to reach a larger audience within your target market.
When executed correctly, free products may not come with a price tag to your audience but they will benefit your business greatly by turning potential customers into paying ones.
Free products that work
The free products we are going to explore are:
- Quotes/Motivation/Tips
- Tips Lists
- Email Series
- Videos
- Product Samples
- Avon Promotions
- More!
Let’s review each product by discussing what it is and how to create it.
1 – Social Media Posts – Quotes/Motivation/Tips
Posting things on social media such as inspiring quotes, motivation, and beauty and skincare tips provide value to your audience.
You can add your website link or a logo to your image using a photo editing program. Canva works excellent for this!
Other than the logo or link in your image, I do not suggest you add any links to your post or say anything about your business.
Let’s look at some of these in a little more detail.
Quotes/Motivational Messages –
Obviously, quotes are just motivating.
Since social platforms are about being sociable, your fans desire content that is inspirational, informative, positive, hopeful, entertaining, or humorous.
Focus on posts like quotes to contribute to a positive discussion.
After all, isn’t one of your social media marketing goals to connect with your audience? How can you expect someone to buy from you when they don’t know or trust you? Your content is meant to foster positive relationships that increase your trustworthiness and perceived value.
Tips – Beauty/Skincare/etc.
Beauty Tips, Skincare Tips, Industry Trends how-to’s, tutorials… even customer testimonials fall into this category.
The key with these types of posts is to promote your business without sounding “salesy”, regardless of the topic.
You can accomplish this by referencing a product within the text of the image or the post.
For purposes of creating awareness, this is a great way to get your name and your business out there while increasing your credibility as an expert internet marketer.
2 – Tips Lists
A tips list is exactly what it sounds like it is – a list of industry-related “tips” to share with your target market.
This is typically a pdf that you will be able to email to them once they opt-in.
In order to make this product intriguing to your audience, you will want to offer tips that uncover an industry secret or entice them to want to use your services and/or products.
For example, on the subject of skin care, here are a few tips lists that might work well for your market:
- 5 daily skin care routines that will help you look 5 to 10 years younger in the next 60 days!
- 10 quick and easy ways to give you a fresh, young look on those tired-looking days.
- The 30 Day Skin Care Challenge: One Skin/Beauty Tip a Day to a Brand New You!
3 – Email Series
This is just information to be delivered in email format.
Using a service such as AWeber, you can create an email series, where once your prospect/customer opts-in, a set number of emails would be sent out at a pre-determined time.
You could use many of the ideas above in the Tips Lists, especially something like:
- The 30 Day Skin Care Challenge: One Skin/Beauty Tip a Day to a Brand New You!
4 – Videos
Videos can take all kinds of formats.
You can share the videos Avon has created that are available at AvonNow.com under Seller Central / Shareable Videos.
You can create your own how-to videos using a service such as Animoto, InVideo Video Creator, Canva, or even TikTok!
You can do a Facebook Live – these are great for Product Spotlights, as well as information about products, what you have to offer, and why someone should consider you.
Facebook Lives (or other Live Videos) are an excellent way to build that relationship because when someone watches you on video, they start to feel like they know you.
5 – Product Samples
Product samples are a great way to build your business.
Consider offering a physical sample, sent in the mail, to those willing to opt-in to your email list.
This gives them an opportunity to try a new skincare or fragrance, and it doesn’t cost much to send.
You can even use Campaign Mailer to send out brochures with samples included. If you’re offering this, I suggest you use Campaign Mailer’s 1st Class postage so your prospect will receive it quickly.
In a world where people don’t get much more than bills in the mails these days, your sample can really stand out.
Keep in mind that you may have many freebie seekers that have no intention of joining your business opportunity or purchasing your products.
Always have interested parties join your opt-in list and fill out a little form to help weed out those who aren’t seriously interested.
6 – Avon Promotions
The Avon Promotion tool is a great way to build your sales and customer loyalty.
And it’s a great example of the “Power of Free!”
You can send Coupon Codes to anyone in your AvonNow Address book and offer them anything from Free Shipping to a Discount on their order, to a Free Product with purchase.
Here is a post where I go into more detail about how to use the Avon Promotion Tool.
7 – More!
More includes the endless possibilities of free products you can offer your target market.
From the products mentioned above, to additional items that you may want to create, offering free products to generate interest in your business is a creative and innovative way to build upon the awareness you have created as you begin to build your business.
And now that you understand what you will need to do to generate interest, it is important to understand just how it will work to your benefit.
We now move into the ever-important element of “opt-in”.
What it means to “opt-in”
So, what is this “opt-in” we keep referring to, anyway?
The term “opt-in” refers to giving your target market an opportunity to choose to become part of your all-important email list.
When a potential customer “opts-in”, they are essentially giving you the “okay” to include them on your list, sending them any and all communications regarding your business, including newsletters, advertisements, special offers, and more.
Avon provides us with our Address Book in our back office, and when we add people to that address book, Avon will market to them on our behalf.
But even so, it would probably be a good idea to subscribe to a list management service to help you stay in contact with your subscribers.
Once they’ve opted in, you can manually enter them into either your AvonNow Contacts or your Personal Email List.
I personally use AWeber for all my lists, and even for my team training.
You can get started for $0 for up to 500 subscribers. Even after that, it’s still pretty inexpensive.
AWeber is a professional email service, and that’s really important because it helps to make sure that your emails actually get delivered to your subscribers, and less likely to end up in their spam filters
AWeber also gives you the ability to create beautiful landing pages where your prospects can enter their information and “opt-in.”
To effectively gain results from the “opt-in”, you will need to apply it to your free products.
Here’s how:
Tips Lists –
In order to view your tips list, readers will be prompted to enter their email address and sign up for your list.
By doing so, they will gain access to your tips list as well as be added to your main email list.
You can set up your AWeber with an automatic reply message with a link to your Tips Document.
Email Series –
When people register for your email series, they will be instructed to provide you with their email address, which will also be used to add them to your list and allow them to receive the emails you promised, such as “a tip a day for 30 days.”
You can set up your AWeber so that once someone opts in, they are automatically added to your 30-day follow-up series.
Product Samples –
It is extremely important that you have all prospective customers who are interested in receiving a sample sign-up for your list.
This way you can continue to market to them and turn them into paying customers.
And it helps weed out those who aren’t seriously interested.
Avon Promotions –
It’s not even possible to use the Avon Promotion Tool to send a coupon code without having a person’s email address.
So, you’ll want to have them either “opt-in” to your email list, or use a Google Form to have them “opt-in.” At the very least, you can offer a promotion if they will send you an email or message with their email address.
More –
Depending on the free product, you can choose to offer an opt-in opportunity whenever you feel is most effective and appropriate.
Whether it’s before readers are able to view and/or download a product, after they have been given a taste or “tease” of information, or once they have had full access to your ideas, it is up to you when to apply the opt-in.
But remember one thing… It is always a critical element that can and will help you to grow your list.
How “Opt-Ins” Increase Your Sales
Opt-ins increase your sales by leading your target market down the path to that sale.
Opt-ins bring people one step closer to the purchase process.
By opting in, they are already expressing interest and identifying themselves as customers.
Whether it’s because they were intrigued by a topic, were referred to a free product by a peer, or came across your material through a well-placed advertisement or social media post, opt-ins can and will increase your sales each and every time.
While not every person who opts-in will become a customer, every customer will have opted-in at one point or another.
Think about it, you can’t sell to someone who doesn’t know you exist.
So, how do “opt-ins” increase sales?
Because every person who opts-in is another person who will benefit from becoming a member of your email list.
And every member of your list will come to know you and your business through constant value-added communications and important calls to action, turning them into customers and therefore, increasing your revenue stream.
Conclusion
Now that you understand how to create awareness about your business and are equipped to take the next step of offering free products with opt-in opportunities, you are well on your way to building your list and making more money.
It really is that easy!
