Prospecting On Social Media For Your Avon Business
In today’s world, social media is both the main source for the latest news and the main way most people stay connected. This is why prospecting on social media is a great way to help you build your Avon business.
In fact, your next best networking and prospecting event is very likely right at your fingertips – social media networking.
Growing your Avon business is pretty simple.
There are only 4 main steps:
- Prospecting for new customers & recruits.
- Getting a brochure (either paper or digital) to every customer every campaign.
- Following-up with every customer you gave a brochure to every campaign before you place your order.
- Take the order, submit it to Avon and deliver to your customer, or send them to your Avon Online Store to place their order
And then Rinse and Repeat.
It’s really that simple. You just do these 4 steps over and over again, and you will have a strong Avon business.
We have our Daily 8 System to help you work on the activities that will help you grow your business.
The Daily 8 system is a proven formula
When followed consistently, the Daily 8 Plan will help you maintain the consistency required to build a thriving team and an exponentially expanding residual income.
Instead of working 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, your goal is to capture 8 POINTS a day, 5 days a week for a total of 40 POINTS per week.
Print this sheet and use it to track your weekly points.
Follow this plan consistently for 90-days and teach your team to do the same. At the end of 90 days, REPEAT and then REPEAT again. This is your Daily Method of operation.
The real secret to your Avon Business success is that there is NO SECRET!
It simply takes a simple plan and the dedication and commitment to WORK THE PLAN consistently! That’s it!

Today We’ll Talk About Prospecting On Social Media to Grow Your Avon Business
When most trainers talk about prospecting on social media, they focus on building rapport.
That’s all true, and it is very important to build relationships, especially when you’re working on social media.
But if you’re actually prospecting for your Avon business, it can feel sort of shady… you friending them on Facebook, and working to build rapport… just to ultimately market to them.
It sometimes can feel like you’re just “buttering them up” just so you can ask them to buy something or join your team.
Of course, you want to continue to build rapport and relationships on social media. Social media is about being social, after all.
But what I’m going to teach you today is more of a direct approach for working with cold market, people you don’t know.
This comes from a training I did with Ray Higdon. He is the master of this.
Direct, Not Spammy
We want to be straightforward and get to the point, but we’re not looking to spam everyone.
So, let’s talk about what spam is first.
Spam is assuming what your prospect wants or is interested in without them telling you.
So, asking them to join your team or buy your product before your prospect has shown any interest is spam.
Using the direct approach, your goal is to quickly find out their interest level, and whether you have something to offer them that would be beneficial to their particular situation.
For example:
If a single guy walks up to a girl in the hotel bar and says, “Hey, I’ve got a room upstairs…” He’s being spammy. He knows nothing about that girl or if she’s even interested. It might work, but if so, he just got lucky!
But instead, if he walks up to the girl in the hotel bar and says, “Hey, are you here with anyone? Can I buy you a drink?” That’s not spam. He’s finding out her level of interest. That’s a little different.
The second situation typically wouldn’t be offensive. Even a married woman wouldn’t be offended. She may say, “No Thanks,” but probably wouldn’t be offended.
So, I hope that makes sense.
Spam is when you ASSUME the position of your prospect without any evidence.
If you just assume that they want to join your team, or assume that they want to buy your product, then that is definitely spam.
Cold Market Prospecting on Social Media
Find Your Audience
Search for relevant conversations – about your products, industry, or customers’ common interest – in social media.
Join Facebook Groups about things you love.
Maybe it’s Jeeps, or Dogs, or gardening… whatever you love, find groups about those topics.
And then participate in the groups and provide value.
You’re not talking about Avon. You’re talking about jeeps, or dogs, or gardening, or whatever it is that you’re in that group to talk about.
Get involved in relevant conversations where you can offer helpful answers and advice, not product or service solutions.
This is where you build relationships.
Search for Relevant topics
What are you a fan of? What movie do you love? What hobbies do you have? What Gurus do you follow?
Seriously, it can be anything. Search for Rachel Ray if you’re into her. It can be scuba diving, snorkeling, nurses… what’s something that you may have in common with others.
And then reach out to those people.
Don’t complicate it. Just look for people you can reach out to.
Reach out to Them via Private Message
Once you’ve chosen someone who looks interesting, reach out to them via private message.
Here is a sample script that Ray Higdon teaches that works very well.
Hey, I know we don’t know each other, but I see you’re in _______ (City) (love dogs)(into Rachel Ray). I’m looking to expand into ______. Would you be open to taking a look at what we do to make some extra money on the side? If not, no big deal.
Swap out the location with whatever it is that you have in common with them.
You can say,
I see that you love scuba diving. We have that in common. I love scuba diving too. Just thought I would ask… Would you be open to taking a look at what we do to make some extra money on the side? If not, no big deal.
This script covers all the bases, and it’s really important to understand this.
Think about it.
If someone reached out to you on social media that you didn’t know, there are two things you would be thinking:
1 – Why are you reaching out to me?
2 – What is it that you want?
And maybe even a 3rd… Do I know you? Do we know each other?
This script answers all three in the very first message.
So, say you’re a normal person, working in a job in Salt Lake City, and someone reaches out to you and says…
I know we don’t know each other, but I see you’re in Salt Lake City. I’m looking to expand into your city. Would you be open to taking a look at what we do to make some extra money on the side? If not, no big deal.
Would you be offended by that?
Most people would not. I wouldn’t be offended by it.
In fact, if they contacted me and I didn’t know them, and they started asking me questions and trying to build rapport, I would be wondering all those same things…. What is it that you want?
For example… if someone reaches out to me and says, “Hey Lynn, You have a beautiful family” and we don’t know each other, here’s exactly what I’m thinking… Ok, why me? What do you want? And I’m totally skeptical and waiting for them to drop the sales pitch.
I would much rather someone say, Hey Lynn, I know we haven’t met. I see you’re…
The only person who might be offended by it is another Network Marketer or Direct Sales Person.
But you shouldn’t be targeting anyone else who’s already in a business.
They are just not your target audience.
If they say Yes
This is where you would share a short recruiting video with them or tell them your story.
What is it that your Avon business does for you?
Does it allow you to be home with your kids? Did it allow you to quit your job? Maybe it gives you something to stretch your mind other than just being with your kids all day. This is different for all of us.
But you want to share your own story.
Give them your Avon Online Store Link and have them Click on Become a Representative.
That opens a great landing page that Avon has created that tells them all about Selling Avon.
Also, Avon taught us how to create our own Opportunity Video. You can find that in Avon U.
Or go to YouTube and search for Sell Avon, and you might find a video you like that will work for you.
But What if They Say No?
You are not going to get all Yeses. That’s not even possible.
You will probably get a lot of Nos, and that’s totally okay.
Then you can work on building rapport after they say No.
They already know what you’re after, so you can let that go now.
Say something like,
Cool. How long have you lived in Salt Lake City?
Or No worries. I love scuba diving too. How long have you been doing that?
And now they know what you’re up to, it’s not shady.
You were straightforward with them.
And guess what. A lot of times after building rapport, they might actually come back and say,
Hey, at one point, you mentioned some kind of business to me. What was that? I didn’t know you at the time. And now that I know you, I’d like to learn more.
Facebook Restrictions You Need to Know
Since you will be sending messages to people you do not know, you need to understand that many of them won’t even see your message.
If you are not Facebook friends, many times it goes in their Message Requests folder.
One way around this is to send them a Private Message and then comment on one of their posts saying something like, Hey, we’re not friends, but I did send you a message if you have a second.
Just by making them aware that you sent them a message, does increase the chances that they will check and find it.
Facebook Messenger Restrictions
Facebook has restrictions on how many messages you can send a day to people you don’t know.
This is true for the desktop version of Facebook Messenger.
The way around that is to use your Phone App.
Facebook doesn’t seem to have the same requirements as your Phone App.
There doesn’t seem to be a limit from your Messenger Phone App, but there is a real fast limit when it comes to your computer, so be careful there.
The key to keeping you out of Facebook trouble is to watch your speed.
If you’re sending the same copy/paste message and you’re sending 10 in like 2 minutes, you’re probably going to get a warning or get in trouble.
So, watch your speed. Don’t be too fast.
And mix it up. Customize your message for the person you are reaching out to. What is it you have in common with them, and why are you reaching out?
It’s a Numbers Game
But typically, for this kind of prospecting, it really is a numbers game.
You need to find people and message them.
Set a goal as to how many people you will reach out to each day.
Also, many people may not even respond to you. If so, it’s not a big deal. This is why you are working the numbers.
Don’t even worry about who is responding and who is not. You just work with the ones who do respond.
How to Use This Method To Gain Customers
This direct approach to prospecting on Social Media is primarily geared towards recruiting.
But it is possible to also gain customers using this method.
You can modify the script a little. Something like…
I know we don’t know each other, but I see you’re in Salt Lake City. I sell Avon and I’m looking to expand into your city. Would you be open to taking a look at our current brochure? We have a cool new brochure that you can browse right on your phone. If not, no big deal.
This still answers the same three questions that they’d likely have if they don’t know you and you are reaching out to them.
1 – Why are you reaching out to me?
2 – What is it that you want?
3 – Do I know you? Do we know each other/
And then take it from there.
If they would like to see a brochure, get one to them and add them to your system.
If they say No, no big deal. Continue to build rapport if applicable.
Summary
The more you do this, the easier it will get, and the better you will get at it.
Know upfront that you will get a lot of Nos. Your job is to sift through who is interested and who is not. It’s really just a sorting game.
The important thing is that you are doing the activity daily.
Set a goal for how many people you will reach out to each day and stick to it.
If you consistently do the activity, the results will come.
