Recruiting New Team Members For Your Avon Business
Of course, personal sales are incredibly important, but recruiting new team members is where you build your Residual Income!
Think of your Avon business like rowing a boat.
One oar is sales, and the other oar is recruiting new team members and building your team.
To really move forward in your boat, you must row with both oars.
This is true in your Avon business as well.
Growing your Avon business is pretty simple.
There are only 4 main steps:
- Prospecting for new customers & recruits.
- Getting a brochure (either paper or digital) to every customer every campaign.
- Following-up with every customer you gave a brochure to every campaign before you place your order.
- Take the order, submit it to Avon and deliver to your customer, or send them to your Avon Online Store to place their order
And then Rinse and Repeat.
It’s really that simple. You just do these 4 steps over and over again, and you will have a strong Avon business.
We have our Daily 8 System to help you work on the activities that will help you grow your business.
The Daily 8 system is a proven formula
When followed consistently, the Daily 8 Plan will help you maintain the consistency required to build a thriving team and an exponentially expanding residual income.

Print this sheet and use it to track your weekly points.
Follow this plan consistently for 90-days and teach your team to do the same. At the end of 90 days, REPEAT and then REPEAT again. This is your Daily Method of operation.

Be A Good Avon Representative
To be a great Recruiter and Team Leader, you must first be a great Representative yourself.

Make sure you are running your business with priority and professionalism.

While the ability to own a business and be your own boss is incredible, that is only one aspect of what you offer with your Avon business opportunity.
The opportunity to help others, to meet new people, and to have new experiences is also important and are unique aspects of our profession.
Share The Avon Opportunity With Everyone

We also have a Team Recruiting Follow-Up System that you will want to employ as you start adding prospects into your recruiting pipeline.
By utilizing our Team Follow-Up Systems, it gets you out of your head. Instead of stressing and worrying about whether you are bothering someone, you just do the next task.
As you get the contact information for each new prospect, just add them to your system and schedule the follow-ups.
This keeps you moving forward and recruiting new team members into your Avon business.
Discussion Points When Talking With Someone About The Avon Opportunity
Focus entirely on the other person and make it all about them.
Forget about yourself completely.
When talking with someone, it isn’t what you want. Instead, it’s about how you can help them.
So, when talking with someone about the Avon opportunity, below are some conversation ideas.
Answer Their Questions
I would love to tell you more about who we are, and the opportunities that are available.
But first, did you have any questions?
Answer each question and then make sure she understands by saying something like “does that make sense?”
When she finishes her questions give her a brief history of Avon, YOUR Story with Avon, and what makes Avon special (without bad talking any other company).
Have you ever done any kind of Direct Sales before?
If Yes…
That’s great! This opportunity is probably very similar to what you are used to then.
If No…
You are in for a big treat! This is the only job where you can literally control how much money you make and even control your own hours!
Your income in this business is based solely on how hard you work!
You can truly get paid what you are worth! How great is that?
Have you decided which kit you want to start with? Or Which kit do you have your eye on?
Picked a Kit – That kit is a perfect way to begin. Let’s get you started then!
No idea which kit – I understand, it’s a big decision. I’ll help you decide which kit is best for you. (Go over kit options)
Which one of those would you want to start with?
Great! I sure would love to have you on my team – I think we are going to be good friends.
Sounds Like You’re Ready to Sign Up!
If they are starting to sound like they are really interested, sometimes it’s just this simple assumption on your part that will get them to the finish line.
Just say, “Sounds like you’re ready to sign up?” and check their response.
If you’re on the phone, you can say, “Great, we can do it right now over the phone,” and then you be the customer service person and enter the information for them.
Or give them the link to get signed up.
If they want more information, go back to the “What questions can I answer for you?”
If they are not sure or want to think about it, you can say something like, “Ok. Would it be ok for me to add you to my follow-up list? It’s no pressure, and that way you can learn more about the different ways you can be involved with Avon?
Other Questions That Will Help The Conversation
What do you do now?
Work – tell me what you like about your job. (LISTEN).
If you could change one thing about it, what would it be? (relate that to your Avon opportunity)
Stay at home mom – You have the most important job in the world!
And a very busy one! So many women wish they could stay home. That’s why I love this opportunity, it is the perfect mommy job.
Student – What a perfect business for you! You can keep all of your friends well-stocked and still have plenty of time to study since you can work your Avon business around your schedule.
Are you married?
No – Oh! So, you are free to get as successful with it as you want, huh?
Yes – What does he/she think about you starting this business?
From what you know about our opportunity so far, what is it that appeals to you the most?
Have you thought about how you would build your Avon business?
It sounds like Avon would be a great fit for you, and I think you would be really great at this.
What is holding you back from signing up today?
This is the real concern.
Money – We’ll discuss the money objection below under Recruiting Objections.
Spouse/Significant Other – Offer to do a 3-way call, etc.
“Not Right Now” Scenario
What happens when a potential recruit says “no” or “not right now?”
Tell her the Avon Story, offer her a brochure, and invite her to become a customer.
Invite her to go to your website to peruse and shop and sign up for your eNewsletter.
Let her know you will notify her anytime there is a special or promotion and new products.
Add Her To Your Pipeline
Remember that the answer is not “No,” the answer is “No, not right now.’ – Zig Ziglar
Add her to your Team Recruiting Follow-Up System.
Watch for Green Lights
Recruiting is a struggle for many Avon Representatives, often because they don’t recognize the opportunity to recruit when they see it.
As you’re recruiting new team members into your Avon business, it will be your job to listen carefully and to understand subtle clues so you will know who is just making light conversation, and who is wanting to learn more about your opportunity.
It is these “green lights” that will help you to become an Amazing Recruiter.
1 – How much money do you really make?
What she is really asking:
How much money can I make doing this?
Though money is most often not the BIGGEST reason people succeed with Avon, it certainly is one of the initial reasons people look to our opportunity.
Where else can you potentially make thousands of dollars each month without years of college education, and without working in an office 18 hours a day?
Your best response:
“The great part about this business is that I control how much I make by how much I work. Anytime I need a little extra, I have the power at any time to give myself a raise!”
2 – How much time do you spend on your Avon business each week? Do you have to do parties?
What she is really asking:
How much time will this take? How often would I be required to do parties?
No one in today’s world is standing around with “extra” time on their hands.
She may have another job, have children she would have to find childcare for, be sharing a car with a partner – all kind of obstacles she would have to work out in order to work her Avon business.
Your best response:
“I do two parties a week, because it is what works best for me and my family’s schedule, and it is helping me build my business quickly.”
Or “Parties are an option if you want to, but I build my business with my friends and family. Word gets out about my great customer service, and so I pick up a few new customers every week.”
Or “I build my business mostly online. I do Facebook Parties every now and then, but I mostly build my business by blogging, and posting on social media.”
Or whatever it is that you do to build your business. Just keep it light and show her that she doesn’t need a lot of time to build her business.
3 – What does it cost to get started in something like this?
What she is really asking:
What will it cost me to get started with my own business?
Most people think it costs an enormous amount of money to get started with their own business.
In the Corporate World – it does!
We offer the opportunity to get started with a minute FRACTION of what a brick-and-mortar business would require.
Your best response:
“You can choose an Avon Starter Kit for only $30, and you’ll get well over $100 worth of products. Or you can even get started for as little as a $5 donation to the American Cancer Society.”
4 – How does your partner feel that you do this?
What she is really asking:
How did you convince your partner to let you be gone from the house so much?
Any major change in schedule is sure to cause a bit of upset and confusion in any household.
Acknowledge this change and assure her that with some time and compromise, it can be mutually beneficial for both parents.
Your best response:
“It took a little adjusting, as would any change, but we learned the importance of supporting each other in anything we choose to do.”
And if they’re looking to build their business online, they won’t need to leave the house.
5 – How long have you been Selling Avon?
What she is really asking:
This one has two parts – either A “How long did it take you to get this good?” or B – “Will I be like this when I am new too?”
It is frightening stepping into an industry like ours.
With most jobs, there is structured training, and you are taught (in theory) everything you need before you step out into the job.
Our industry is a little more “On The Job” training.
Your best response:
The truth – however long you have been Selling Avon – followed with “and I learn new things every single day to make my business bigger and better.”
7 – Do you need any help setting up? This is most likely at a party or event.
What she is really asking:
Can I get a sneak peek of your goodies and see how you set this stuff up?
Regardless of whether you need help or not – LET HER HELP YOU!
It gives you the opportunity to chat and start a relationship with her.
If she starts checking stuff out, you can say:
“Before I became a Representative, that was one of my FAVORITE products – now I love that I can get it at wholesale every time I need it, and even make money just for telling people how much I love it!”
8 – How many Representatives are there here?
What she is really asking:
Will there be enough business for me?
It is a HUGE Direct Sales myth that this industry is “oversaturated.”
If you hear someone tell you she quit because there were “too many Representatives” in her area, know that that is an EXCUSE!
There are doctors’ offices EVERYWHERE!
You have never heard anyone say they did not pursue their dream of becoming a doctor because there were so many, right?
The fact still remains – we are FAR from over-saturating any industry.
Your best response:
“We have a phenomenal team of ladies here working together and eager to help new Representatives join us.”
Or tell her my story about a little town of Fillmore, CA.
Fillmore is a very small town, with a population of roughly 15,000 people.
Back when I was building my business in California, every campaign 5 or 6 of my Top 10 in Sales (from my large Avon team), lived in Fillmore, CA!
It was crazy! But the truth is that everyone has their own sphere of influence. And there’s plenty of sales to go around.
9 – How or Where did you receive your training?
What she is really asking :
How do I learn how to do all of this?
If she has never been in this profession before, she may not understand how direct sales works.
On the other hand, if she has been in the profession before, she may have had a Leader who was not there for her, and that may very well be why she is not with the business any longer.
Your best response:
“Avon offers some of the best training in the industry, through webinars, Facebook Lives, and Conventions. And we have all kinds of team training.
We provide systems to help you be successful, and we have weekly Facebook Lives, and bi-weekly team zoom meetings to support you.
10 – All of my friends say I should get into something like this.
What she is really saying:
“Do you think I would be good at this?”
The truth is, our friends tell us we should do all kinds of things… but that isn’t saying they will help support us in it, nor do they understand the entire picture of what “getting into something like this” means.
She is wanting to hear from you – the expert – if she would be good at it and get real validation from someone in the know.
Your best response:
“I bet you would be, and I would love to work with you and help you be as successful as you want to be.
Overcoming Recruiting Objections
One of the biggest challenges in recruiting is overcoming objections.
When someone offers an objection, they are not necessarily saying no.
Instead, they are sharing a concern or challenge that they need help solving.
Just like with Green Lights, your prospect’s “objection” may be more of a question for more information.
Learning to handle objections smoothly takes practice.
It’s not only a matter of knowing what to say but knowing how to listen and share from your heart.
By really connecting with your potential recruits, you need to take your focus off yourself and truly think about how you can help that individual person.
1 – I don’t have any friends
This is a common objection that is CERTAINLY asking for more information.
What she really means is “I don’t want my friends to feel obligated to have to buy from me.”
One of the best skills for overcoming any kind of objection is a “Feel, Felt, Found” system.
Your response might be something like “I know how you feel, I felt that way too, what I found was even though I started by asking my friends to look at a brochure in the very beginning, within just a few weeks my business took off with women whom I had never met before.
If modern technology has done anything for us in the last decade it is the ability to get in touch with mass amounts of prospects with a touch of a button.
You don’t have to know 1,000 people in order to be successful in our profession.
2 – I don’t have any time
When someone gives this excuse, you know two things right off the bat.
1) They truly missed the concept of the Direct Sales Profession. Or, 2) they’re just throwing out an excuse to cover up the real reason for not joining.
What do you say to this objection?
Clearly, you ask if they understand how time compounding works and how, after a few short months, they’ll have others in their downline duplicating their efforts.
If they don’t, go ahead and explain it carefully to them again.
If they do understand this concept, then time isn’t their objection at all.
Ask them if there is any other reason they’re not interested. They may go ahead and tell you at that time.
But remember, it’s your job of informing your prospect properly. You do that by asking and probing.
Learn to listen to what they are saying. Always ask if they have any other questions or concerns.
It’s like peeling an onion. You may have to peel away the top few layers in order to get down to the “good stuff.”
Not every one of your prospects is going to say, sign me up!
What you must do is become a master of asking and listening. Then you’ll find out the true objection.
3 – My husband and I share just one car – or no car at all!
This is an opportunity to highlight the benefits of creating your own schedule – a “boss” doesn’t make your schedule for you.
4 – I don’t have childcare.
Recommend networking in playgroups, moms’ groups, etc.
Also, “I don’t have childcare” is pretty vague.
Asking questions such as “could you get help with your children just one night a week if it made a big difference in your monthly income?”
Or talk to them about how they can build their Avon business online while being home with their children.
Most of our work can be done around our children – phone calls at nap or snack time, gardening with other moms while we are out and about with our children, gardening with people you meet through your children – doctors, nurses, coaches, teachers, etc.
5 – My family (husband) will object to this.
If someone’s spouse is negative about Direct Sales or MLM, it is either because of misinformation or for a relatively good reason – like investing a lot of money before in a business that did not pan out!
Nobody likes to make the same mistake twice.
And unless you can convince your prospect – and even their spouse – that this time will be different, they most likely will not join.
Most everyone wants to believe that this profession works.
What they are looking for is someone who has the expertise and experience to help them succeed!
Find out what went wrong last time and if it is possible, ensure that it won’t happen again.
Do not, though, guarantee their success. That is impossible.
Instead, encourage and offer suggestions for how to go about the business differently while still staying clear that this business requires work.
6 – I’m not a salesman.
We are all salespeople. If you’re married, you sold your spouse on you, didn’t you? Sure, you did.
You sold your employer on how good a job you’d do.
You sold your banker or landlord that you had the ability to pay your mortgage or rent on time every month.
And, if you stop a moment to think about it, you’ve sold all your friends on your favorite movie or restaurant.
How did you do these things?
You just talked about what you believed in from your heart.
All too often, people in my organizations try to develop slick presentations.
The best presentation requires no outline or memorizing on your part.
The best presentation comes from first-hand experience.
7 – I’ve tried this before.
If this is truly their objection get the facts from them knowing that this is a touchy area.
Nobody wants to share their failures with you.
Ask them what they think went wrong in their last experience.
Listen closely.
Then share with them how you and your upline are avoiding that same problem and how you will help them become profitable.
Explain that your team has systems in place to help them do their follow-ups and that will help them be more successful.
The key here is that you do know what you’re doing.
This is where you must connect with your prospect and help them to see that this business can be incredibly successful – but must be run the correct way.
Focus on the relationship, and how you can help this experience be a positive one.
8 – I don’t know enough about the industry/product.
Actually, that is what we prefer!
There is nothing worse than having to un-learn something before learning something new.
Not having a background in Direct Sales is great because they are a blank slate.
Assure her that you are there to train her every step of the way and that Avon offers training, Webinars, Facebook Lives, etc.
Tell her that we have a simple Daily 8 System to help her know what to do to build her business.
You must make sure she knows you will not sign her and then throw her to the wolves – a supported Representative is a successful Representative.
9 – I could never get up and talk in front of people or do a Facebook Live.
This is a common objection that most anyone can empathize with.
It is intimidating to think about standing in front of a group of strangers or going Live on Facebook.
Assure your Prospect that you will be there for her every step of the way until she feels comfortable enough to “go it alone.”
And that there is no need to stand up and talk in front of a group of people or do a Facebook Live until she is ready.
10 – I do not have the money to get started.
This is by far the most common of all the Recruiting Objections – Lack of money.
The best response to this is:
That’s the reason you need to be in our business in the first place–to have more money!
If you feel she seriously wants to do this but can’t even come up with the money to get started, you can offer her an online fundraiser to earn the money for her starter kit.
But if she can’t even come up with the $5 donation to get started, it’s likely an excuse.
You might want to just add her to your follow-ups until she decides she is ready to sign up.
You do not want to set the precedence that she does not have to spend money to make money.
This is just a business truth.
Final Thoughts
You now have everything you need to begin recruiting new team members into your Avon business and growing a team of excited, motivated Representatives.
Always remember that your customers, team members, and prospective team members will see everything that you do, so make sure to always be professional and lead with your heart.
The greatest aspect of the direct sales profession is that the more people you help to achieve their goals – the more you will achieve your goals!
Get out there and make some people’s dreams come true!
