Turn Your Dream Into A Workable Plan To Build Your Avon Business
Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in a dream. We’ve dreamed for so long about creating a solid, sustainable Avon business, and yet, all we do is dream.
I’ve seen lots of Representatives do this. They attend RepFest; they attend our sales meetings and webinars.
And yet, week after week, month after month, year after year, they fail to make any progress toward their dreams. Does this sound like you?
Are they just lazy? No, I believe some of them work very hard.
Actually it’s something worse…
They don’t know how to move from a dream to a plan and they’re stuck.
So let’s talk about some ideas how to turn your dream into a workable plan.
Start With the Long-Term
If you’ve ever been on a job interview and were asked, “Where do you want to be five years from now,” you might have thought it an odd question. But as a business owner, that might just be the most important consideration you can have.
Without knowing where you’re headed in the long term, it’s impossible to create a map to get there. You need to know what your destination is, so that every day, week, month, and year you can check your progress to be sure you’re still headed in the right direction.
Create Milestones
Once you know your ultimate destination, you can draft a plan for getting there, and create the interim goals that will help you stay on track.
For example, if in five years you want to be free to quit your job, then you need to have a few pieces in place before that can happen:
- Enough income to replace your income.
- Passive income to sustain your business, even while you’re not working.
With this list, you can then work backwards from your five-year goal, and create milestones along the way. If you know you’ll need to earn $60,000 annually in order to replace your income, and right now you’re earning $5,000 in your Avon business, then reasonable milestones might look like this:
- Year 1: $15,000
- Year 2: $25,000
- Year 3: $40,000
- Year 4: $60,000
- Year 5: Sustain your income, or work to grow to $80,000
With these milestones in place, it’s much easier to figure out exactly what you need to do to achieve them, by setting monthly, weekly, and daily goals.
I gave you a plan to actually accomplish this goal in four years. So it’s up to you whether you want to make this a four-year plan or a five-year plan. You could also make it a three-year plan if you’re willing to put in the work to make it happen.
Create Small Goals
If you say to someone, you need to move from $5,000 to $60,000 in five years, that’s a pretty overwhelming task. After all, it’s a $55,000 increase and most people will look at that and immediately dismiss it as impossible.
But when you break it down as we have above, and then again into smaller steps, it suddenly doesn’t look so daunting.
Create Goals to Achieve President’s Council
In the first year of the plan we have outlined here, your income needs to increase only by $10,000. That’s less than $1000 per month! Surely that’s easy enough to accomplish!
You can further break that down by week: $1000 per month is just $250 per week or $500 per campaign. If you can increase your sales to $1300 per campaign, you’ve already reached your milestone.
That might mean ordering an additional 100 brochures and talking to more people. The point is reaching this smaller goal is far easier than thinking about that five-year plan.
Once you’ve sold $10,000 in a year and reached the President’s Club sales level, you can earn 50% on your regular items. So you could seriously grow your business to President’s Council – sell over $110,000 and earn your $60,000 and even a FREE Avon Trip!
Yes, that would take work – lots of it. But how much time is your job taking to earn you that $60,000? I bet it’s more time than would be required to sell at President’s Council.
In fact, I used to sell at President’s Council, and I know it wasn’t near as much work as my day job was.
Create Goals to Build a Leadership Business
When you combine sales and leadership, your Avon business is totally unlimited. Your income is up to you!
You will receive $20 for each new qualified new team member you bring onto your team. You also qualify for bonuses.
Set your small goals according to the requirements to promote to the next level:
Promoter: When you appoint your first new representative and they place their first qualified order, you will earn a3% of their sales Sponsoring Bonus for as long as you and they maintain your Avon businesses.
Star Promoter: When you grow your team by one more person, and you have two people placing orders, you still earn the 3% Sponsoring Bonus, as well as an additional 3% Generation Bonus.
Ambassador: There are three levels at the Ambassador level – Bronze, Silver, and Gold. As you grow to each level, you earn a higher percentage on your team sales. You also earn a promotion bonus of $500, $750 or $1,000 when you meet the requirements.
Leader Level: This is where your leadership business really gets fun! You’re earning real money and your team is growing! There are also three levels at the Leader Level – Bronze, Silver, and Gold. As you grow to each level, you earn a higher percentage on your team sales. You also earn a promotion bonus of $1,500, $2,000 or $2,500 when you meet the requirements.
Executive Level: Every business is different, and I can’t give you numbers of what you’ll earn at each level. But at this level, I would guess you’d have met your goal of earning $60,000/year. At this point, the earnings increase dramatically. In fact, you will be so excited because now you’ve learned the true value of residual income.
Combine Sales and Leadership Goals for Best Results
Set your goals for both sales and leadership. Always be moving towards that next President Club level and the next Leadership Title.
When you have both working together, you might only need to sell at Rose Circle level ($38,000 a year) and be in the Leader Level to have accomplished your goal.
As I mentioned before, everyone’s earnings are different and so there’s no way to give you an exact goal to tell you how much you will make.
But as you grow your business, you’ll have your own trends to tell you if you are moving quickly enough to fulfill your dreams.
Just be sure to watch your trends. Check your milestones and make sure you are on track. If you have gotten off course, make a course correction and get back to it!
So what’s your big dream?
How can you deconstruct it into achievable milestones, workable goals, and finally, daily and weekly tasks? If you can do this (and you definitely can) then you can achieve anything in business and in life.
